The artist has donated the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

Fender was presented with the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was declared the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges arising from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and audiences.

"The concept that money from shows in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his award winnings to worthy causes.

When Pulp received the prize in the year 1996 for their release the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award between several organizations, such as the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," the artist explained to outlets.

Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally 1994 winners they contributed their award to a MS organization after a friend was identified with the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked vocalist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched another person's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had saved two grassroots venues in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the other in that location were purchased under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
