Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
